After completion of their new home, these clients looked forward to creating a classic New England cottage garden to welcome their guests. Extensive masonry and a wide stone path laid the foundation for an enchanting entry to the home.  The large stepping stones were softened by an intricate mixture of low growing thymes and sedums that blended into a vibrant display of perennials and flowering shrubs. The sensitive conservation zone on the waterfront side of the home required native species so flowering perennials and grasses were chosen to create a backdrop and surround a small frog pond which was installed. As a final touch, hundreds of spring bulbs were naturalized into the lawn and incorporated into the perennial beds.
